et’s set the scene, you’re on an important phone call whilst walking to your car. You Get in, start it up and your phone connects to your car’s audio system. You pull out and then suddenly your call is silent – what happened, did they hang up, did I lose connection? It’s Apple’s latest feature – driving mode – and it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

Love it or hate it driving mode has features that most of us will want at some stage making it important to know how to turn off driving mode on iPhone. Today’s blog will be on just that, walking you through what driving mode actually does, and how to turn it off.

Firstly, What Is Driving Mode On iPhone?

Driving mode is part of Apple’s Driving Focus, designed to keep the driver focused and safe from distractions while driving. It has been designed with good intentions, but the execution takes features and decisions away from the user which historically has not gone down well.

As we all know it’s illegal to touch our phones while we drive, and for good reason. With almost 20,000 car crashes each day in the US, we want to do anything to prevent adding to that statistic. So, without touching your phone to turn off driving mode can still be done easily but it will require some preparation.

To do this, we will need the help of Siri, as it will stay connected while you drive and won’t require you to touch your phone to operate it.

To enable Siri’s driving mode, navigate to your iPhone’s Settings App. Once there find the Siri & Search section, in this section locate ‘Allow Siri When Locked’ and enable it. This will allow you to operate Siri without needing to touch your iPhone.

It’s a good idea to test this before driving, to do so simply say “Hey Siri” with your phone locked. It should respond to your voice and ask what you need.

If that has worked, you can now disable driving mode while driving by utilizing Siri. To do so, simply say, “Hey Siri, turn off driving mode.” This will disable it quickly, allowing you to get back to your phone call.

Disable Driving Mode From Settings:

Another way to answer your question about how to turn off driving mode on iPhone is to prevent it from turning on entirely. To do this we will need to disable driving mode in your iPhone’s settings.

To turn off driving mode in your iPhone’s settings, again navigate to your control center by swiping down from the top right of your screen. Once there, press and hold on to the ‘Focus’ button, this will take you to a top-down list of options. Navigate to ‘Driving mode, near the bottom and press the 3 dots on the right side. This will take you to your driving focus settings allowing you to disable the feature.

In these settings, you can also access features like allowing certain contacts to message you during driving focus and more.

Turn Off Bluetooth:

A simpler method of preventing driving mode from activating is to disable your iPhone’s Bluetooth.

Driving mode needs Bluetooth to enable automatically, as when it connects to your car’s audio it enters driving focus. If you turn off Bluetooth on your iPhone, it won’t enable driving mode. To turn off Bluetooth, go to your Settings App, then to Bluetooth and toggle Bluetooth off.

Use CarPlay:

This next tip is great for those with newer cars, as they most likely won’t encounter the issues with Driving mode and won’t need to search how to turn off driving mode on iPhone.

If you have an Apple CarPlay compatible iPhone and car, a device with Apple CarPlay installed will allow you to control your phone while driving, negating the driving focus issues.

CarPlay also lets you safely use your iPhone while driving with Siri voice controls or by using your car’s controls. If your car doesn’t have CarPlay, you can use a third-party device such as a Bluetooth receiver to achieve the same result.

From Humble Beginnings

     The early history of Apple is a fascinating one, full of innovation, competition, and controversy.

     Apple was founded in 1976 by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne, three young men with a passion for technology and a desire to create something new. They started out in Jobs’s garage, where they built and sold the first Apple computer, the Apple I. The Apple 1 was a personal computer kit that was sold as a motherboard (with CPU, RAM, and basic textual-video chips). This led to the formation of Apple Computer Inc., which was listed as a computer hardware and software manufacturer.

     From this early success, they quickly designed and released the Apple II on June 10th, 1977, which the device was a more powerful and sophisticated computer that became wildly popular in homes and schools. However, this success was short-lived…

     In the 1980s, Apple faced some tough competition from companies such as IBM and Microsoft, but it was able to stay afloat thanks to the success of its Macintosh computer in 1984. However, just after its release in 1985, Steve Jobs left Apple in 1985, after a power struggle with the board of directors. He went on to start a new company, NeXT, which focused on developing computers for the education market.

In The Absence of Steve Jobs

     Jobs remained involved with Apple as a member of the board of directors, but he was no longer actively involved in the company’s day-to-day operations. Throughout the 1990s, Apple struggled financially, even with the release of the Power Macintosh in 1994. However, in 1996, Apple acquired NeXT and Steve Jobs returned to the company as an advisor. He eventually became CEO of Apple again in 1997.

     Back with regained power and vision, Steve Jobs played a key role in the company’s resurgence and transformation into the technology giant it is today. Especially, with its release of the iMac in 1998 (see full iMac history) and closely thereafter, the iPod in October, 2001. Over the years, Apple has released numerous innovative products, including variations of the iPod, iPhone, iPad, Mac Computers, iWatch, and various software tools like Apple iCloud and AI services like Siri.

Apple's Stock Surges

     Apple’s stock price continued to rise in the early 2000s, fueled by the success of the iPod and the launch of the iTunes Store. Between 2001 and 2003, the stock price more than tripled, and the company’s market capitalization rose to over $20 billion. Apple’s stock experienced significant growth between 2003 and 2011. In 2003, the stock price was around $8 per share, and the company had a market capitalization of around $20 billion.

     Over the next several years, Apple’s stock price continued to rise, fueled by the success of a number of innovative products, such as the iPod, the iPhone, and the iPad. The company’s market capitalization also continued to grow, reaching over $100 billion by the end of 2007.

     Apple’s stock price reached an all-time high in 2011, when it reached over $400 per share and the company’s market capitalization reached over $300 billion. This was a significant increase from 2003, when the stock price was less than $10 per share and the market capitalization was around $20 billion.

    Overall, Apple’s stock experienced strong growth between 2003 and 2011, thanks to the company’s ability to consistently deliver innovative and high-quality products and services to consumers.

The Unfortunate Transition

     Tim Cook became CEO of Apple on August 24, 2011, after the resignation of Steve Jobs due to his illness. Cook had been serving as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Apple since 2005 and had been with the company since 1998.

     Ultimately, on October 5, 2011, Steve Jobs passed away from a long battle with pancreatic cancer. His death was a significant loss to the technology industry and to Apple, as he was widely regarded as a visionary and a driving force behind the company’s success.

Add A Card On Your Apple Watch

  1. Unlock your Apple Watch and open your app grid (or list) and scroll to find your Wallet app on your Apple Watch.
  2. In Your watch’s wallet app,  scroll to the bottom and then tap Add Card.
  3. Choose “Apple Account”, “Debit” or “Credit Card” etc. After clicking your preferred payment, the on-screen instructions will guide you.

How To Pay with your Apple Watch

  1. Go to the contactlesss payment device, which has an Apple Pay symbol.

Using Apple Pay On Your iPhone

With your Apple Cash, credit, and debit cards stored in the Wallet app on your iPhone, you can use Apple Pay for secure, contactless payments wherever you see contactless payment symbols.

Using Apple Pay With Your iPhone

Using Your Default Card In Your Wallet At The Register:

  1. First, unlock your iPhone with your Face ID, Touch ID or Passcode open Apple Wallet.
  2. Double-click the button on the right side of your iPhone (or tap your home button twice on older iPhones). Or you can hold your iPhone near the contactless reader.
  3.  Your default card should appear. Then double tap to authenticate with your face or passcode.
  4. If completed correctly, you should see “Done” and a checkmark appears.

Note: If you want to use a different card you can choose which card you want at the point of payment authentication.
